Here are downloads that were used by the panel members for the "Mixed Genre" panel at past WisCon. Hold the [shift] key down and click on the name of one of the files here: (updated March 15, 2003). If you do not have Word 97 then the Rich Text Format is a good choice since it keep the formatting and diffrent sized fonts used. ASCII text format is plain text and will work with any computer text program. My favorite science fiction convention is held on Memorial Day weekend every year in Madison, Wisconsin. It is the only feminist science fiction convention in the world. You can meet the most amazing people there. It's a favorite for authors who are serious about characters who are strong and female. WisCon was the place where the prestigious "James Tiptree Award" was created. Another favorite, is the newly-formed membership organization, Broad Universe. The purpose of the group is to promote and provide support for women authors of science fiction, fantasy & horror at SF conventions, book conventions, etc. Their signature event is the Rapid-Fire Reading now held at many conventions. Several BU members each read 5 minutes from their work. It's a great way to hear all sorts of fabulous fiction and meet new authors. There are so many wonderous stories being written and fewer and fewer places for publication. It's worth it to support on-line magazines like Strange Horizons. They publish new stories, art, poetry and make one fine looking magazine with real content. Read it on-line! |
