In the operating room, Dr. Mary Vinson "was the coolest surgeon Cherry had yet seen ... wonderfully, undeviatingly good, moving with calm sure hands and steady eyes, without a trace of temperament or tension"--unlike some of the more colorful male doctors she encounters (Senior Nurse, p. 141). This is one of two female doctors who appear in Senior Nurse, the other being obstetrician Dr. Walker.
