cherry Cherry Ames, Clinic Nurse

Book 13 cover
Book 13, by Julie Tatham
Illustrated by ???
Grosset & Dunlap, 1952

"Your job," Dr. Joe had told her soberly, "in one respect will be very like that of an office nurse working for a physician in private practice."
--From Cherry Ames,
Clinic Nurse
, p. 3

As she leaves Hilton Clinic one afternoon, Cherry is kidnapped, driven blindfolded to a mysterious location, and forced at gunpoint to help treat a gunshot wound.
Chapter 1: A Troubled Patient
Chapter 2: Kidnaped!

The town of Bluewater where Charlie is employed as a summer camp counselor was first mentioned in Private Duty Nurse when Cherry attended a seance there. Charlie had gone to the same Bluewater Boys' Camp when he was Midge's age (p. 134). In Camp Nurse, Cherry works at Camp Blue Water, but it's a summer camp for girls, in Pennsylvania.

Chapter 3: A Strange Journey
Chapter 4: Emergency Operation
Chapter 5: A Mystery or a Nightmare?

Cherry names her car Bouncing Bess (p. 1), following the family tradition of always naming their cars; the family car is named Nellie (Veterans' Nurse, p. 113).

Chapter 6: A Possible Clue
Chapter 7: A Concrete Clue
Chapter 8: Wilk Makes a Diagnosis

This was apparently the first book issued in the familiar reddish tweed format (the third format used for the series), with a small boxed picture of Cherry Ames on the front cover, printed in black.

Chapter 9: The Legend of the Old Mill
Chapter 10: Charlie Provides More Clues
Chapter 11: Evidence But No Proof

Cherry isn't susceptible to poison ivy (p. 92).

Chapter 12: Cherry Solves a Problem
Chapter 13: Mrs. Fraze's News
Chapter 14: In the Sanctuary

Cherry's mother suggests that the Wayside Inn could be turned into a rest home (p. 177); after it is, Cherry supervises the nursing staff there in Rest Home Nurse.

Chapter 15: Chief Jackson Explains
Chapter 16: Fiction Is Stranger Than Truth
