Each of the books in this short-lived series focuses on a different "NIT," or nurse in training, in a different specialized area at Bayshore Medical Center in southern California, where they are enrolled in a four-year work-study program.
The nurses featured are good friends, and the characters and stories overlap, though each book stands independently. The plots are mainly concerned with romantic complications, with the heroines happily finding true love before the final pages.
- Andrea Whitman: Pediatrics, 1983
Andrea enjoys working on pediatrics, but she'd enjoy it more if she didn't have to deal with technician Joe Duffy, a teasing pest who can't compare with Dr. Daniel Stewart, the handsome--and married--head of pediatrics.
- Monica Ross: Maternity, 1983
Monica's a soft touch who can't help trying to rescue strays: be they cats, mice, turtles, a pregnant high school girl ... or a struggling drama student named Paul Manelli.
- Elizabeth Jones: Emergency, 1984
Living on a small yacht with only her Dalmatian for company, Liz likes to throw parties and have fun, till a vicious attack leaves her confused, hurt, and afraid to trust her secretive new boyfriend, Ty Pippin.
- Gabriella Ortiz: Crisis Center Hotline, 1984
